WHDF Inc Update # 6 - 19.07.2011

Dear Elite of WHP:

Greetings in God Almighty's name to you and family!

This update seeks to inform you regarding the progress of Western Highlands Development Forum (WHDF) Association Inc between May and July 2011:

1. Hon. Andrew Mald MP had a meeting with Tep Dami and Samson Komati regarding the possibilities of supporting WHDF in its proposal to host the 'Western Highlands Provincial Day Celebration 2011' in Port Moresby sometime in August/September 2011. The Hon. Mald requested that a proposal be written and delivered to him. Samson Komati delivered a K50,000 submission to him to help fund this event from his DSIP funds for Moresby Northeast as this event is planned to be staged at Unagi Oval for all WHP men, women, and children residing in Port Moresby, NCD, and Central Province. We hope to recieve this grant (in full or part) from the Hon Member anytime in July 2011.

2. The WHDF is still waiting on Hon. Governor Tom Olga MP to deliver on his commitment to deliver a grant of K50,000 to sponsor the first Annual General Meeting (AGM) of WHDF in Port Moresby. We are still waiting for this grant since his promise in February 2011. George Kauli of WHDF is closely following up with the Governor on his plegde to WHDF. We hope that he does not backflip on his decision and commitment to WHDF.

3. The Western Highlands Provincial Day Celebration 2011 event will be held in Port Moresby anytime in August or September in combination with the UPNG, Pacific Adventist University, and other students from WHP. The event will be coordinated and staged in cooperation with WHDF once funding is secured from Hon. Andrew Mald MP and few other donors. Keep your fingers crossed on this event.

4. WHDF and its members in PNG and overseas sincerely congratulate Tep Dami, the Deputy Chairman of WHDF Inc, on his promotion to become the Director of Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) in PNG - first time for a PNG national in PWC. Tep had been with PWC for more than 2 decades. We also congratulate Theresia Bob, the Treasurer of WHDF Inc, on her new adventure as Principal/ Director of Tee Bee & Associates (accounting). Theresia has set up her own company and is now working full-time in business advisory, accountancy, consulting, etc. We congratulate both Tep and Theresia and wish them all the best as they shine in their new roles.

5. Membership Registration of WHDF will commence soon. The WHDF Interim Committee will meet on 05th August, 2011 at 6pm at Holiday Inn, Port Moresby, and approve the final version (design & contents) of the "WHDF Membership Registration Form" before it is circulated to all elites of WHP in PNG and overseas. Once you recieve the form via e-mail, newspapers, fax, or Facebook, go ahead (print it out) and fill out all the sections. Send the COMPLETED form back to WHDF Interim Committee on the address provided in the form along with your K100 membership deposit reciept. No cash must be given to any member of the WHDF Interim Committee. Deposit your K100 per person into the WHDF bank account with BSP Bank in Port Moresby and send us the reciept only for our records and for audit purposes. So be expecting the template of this form to come to you soon.

6. WHP elites must earn respect based on merit; nothing less or more. If you are an elite of WHP, hold your head up high and work hard; compete in your profession and earn your living based on nothing but merit. Very recently, two elites of WHP that have stood out on merit that shine as examples for all of us, among a few others, is Dr. Thomas Webster (PhD) and Dr. Lemas Pangum (PhD). Dr Webster has been awarded Honorary Professorship by an Australian University, bestowed the Chairman of AusAID-funded PNG Incentive Fund, among few other celebrated positions. Dr. Pangum has been chosen by the Government of PNG to serve as Council Member of the PNG Environment & Conservation Council. Both men are a fine example of academic excellence and professional achievements. WHDF congratulates both gentlemen and leaders of WHP!

7. Our WHDF Annual General Meeting (AGM) has been postponed once again due to non-reciept of financial commitments by Hon. Governor Tom Olga MP. The WHDF Interim Executives have decided to proceed with arrangements for the 1st AGM through funding raised from Membership Registration. Throughout the whole month of August, the forms will be run and funds will be raised. Once the WHDF account has recieved sufficient funding from membership registration, it will set a date and inform all elites of WHP regarding the AGM. Sorry to all of you for keeping you in suspense and delaying this important event, which should set the stage for WHDF and position this non-political and independent NGO in a better stage to achieve its core objectives for WHP and PNG in the years ahead. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

8. We are thankful for AusAID via its PNG Law & Justice Sector Program for allocating to WHDF in 2012 a budget of K300,000 to build our organizational and operational capacity in Mt. Hagen and Port Moresby. Once this is set, we will bid for bigger funding with PNG Government, WHP Government, and all foreign aid donors (including AusAID) for all kinds of law and order projects and other community development projects in Mt. Hagen City and parts of WHP.

9. The 2012 Elections are around the corner and the WHDF wish to inform all our members that his organization does not and will not endorse, support, or facilitate political support for anyone. All candidates of all the 8 seats in WHP for 2012 are members of WHDF and we respect each of them in their own merit. Voting is a private right stipulated and empowered by our National Constitution. When the time is right, each of us will do the right thing and vote for any of our elites who are running for 2012. The WHDF belongs to all the elites of WHP; it does not belongs to one specific group, tribe, ethnicity, clan, etc. Because of the impending elections of 2012, most of our activities will be strictly monitored so that it will not favor anyone but allow each candidate to compete on their own merits.

With these words, we wish you and your family all the best in luck as you set forth daily to make a difference in the lives of your community, tribe, company, church, etc. in WHP and PNG.

God bless you all.

Regards,

Samson Komati
