Pacific Fisheries, Trade Ministers meeting underway in PNG

The Pacific fish stock is important for an Economic Partnership Agreement with the European Union.

This is top of the agenda at the Pacific Fisheries and Trade Ministers meeting currently underway in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

Director General of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community, Dr Jimmie Rodgers said that fisheries resources of the Pacific represent a major source of food and income for the Island countries, and is the main source for sustainable economic development.

The Pacific Island countries have been working on negotiations with the European Union for over six years.

Fiji is represented at the meeting by Foreign Affairs Minister, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola and they will convene today to deliberate on a way forward for Economic Partnership Agreements negotiations with the European Union.
