CHL hosts official launch of Pasifika Space

On Wednesday August 10, Pasifika Australia launched the only on-campus lounge and office space dedicated to Pacific Islander and Maori students in Australia. The launch was organized by Pasifika project officer Nicole Alexander with student coordinators Adam Laveta, Phoebe Smith, Miranda Scarr and several enthusiastic student volunteers. The space has been created with the support of the Student Equity Office, the School of Culture, History and Language in the College of Asia and the Pacific at the ANU. Pacific student support is a regular feature of the university landscape in New Zealand and Pasifika staff and students at the ANU hope that the creation of such a space encourages other universities in Australia to develop targeted programs to increase Pacific enrollment and retention in higher education.

Pasifika Australia is an equity and access project of the School of Culture History and Language. It consists of a community of ANU students and staff who are passionate about equity and identity issues facing Pacific Islander communities in Australia. Dr Katerina Teaiwa is the head of Pasifika Australia. The project is run with support from Student Equity and the School of Culture, History and Langauge.
