MARENGO Mining has appointed Mark Churchward, a former finance manager of Ok Tedi Mining, as its new chief financial officer.

A chartered accountant, Churchward was based at the giant Ok Tedi mine in Papua New Guinea's Western Province for a period of four years.

John Ribbons previously juggled both the CFO and company secretary roles, but the progress with Marengo's Yandera copper-molybdenum-gold project in PNG has required a full time CFO.

Ribbons will remain as Marengo's company secretary, while joining Churchward at Marengo's West Perth office is new recruit Dean Richardson, who won the role of vice-president for investor relations.

Richardson most recently served in this capacity for rock phosphate explorer Minemakers and is experienced in liaising with North American and European investors.

Marengo also recently appointed project planning veteran Bernard Bent to oversee Yandera's definitive feasibility study.

Bent has more than 30 years experience with Rio Tinto, where he was responsible for most of Hamersley Iron's expansion projects.

He also led the feasibility study and construction of the Argyle diamond mine in Western Australia.
